Q. How long will I be in the hospital?
A. Approximately 3-4 nights after hip or knee replacement. After shoulder replacement you will stay in the hospital 1-2 nights.

Q. How many surgeries does Dr. McLaughlin perform?
A. On average, he performs between 18 and 22 surgeries per week.

Q. Do you accept my insurance?
A. The Kennedy Center has contracts with Medicare, Network Health Plan, BCBS, PPO/HMO and WEA Insurance. It is best to call your carrier to make sure they will pay for services at the Kennedy Center and at Mercy Medical Center.

Q. I was told by my doctor that I need a joint replacement or arthroscopy, where do I start?
A. Just call The Kennedy Center at 1-800-322-2141 or in Oshkosh 223-0123 and our friendly, knowledgeable staff will make an appointment for you.

When you make your first appointment with us, you will first get x-rays and then you will visit with your doctor. After an evaluation of your condition, if he feels you are a candidate for surgery, you will sit down with a Kennedy Center nurse. You and the nurse will discuss a surgery date that is convenient for you and she can make the appointment for you while you are still at the Clinic.

Q. Will the surgery and recovery hurt?
A. Anesthesia will be provided during the surgery to prevent any pain. You may experience some pain or discomfort during the recovery process, but your doctor will prescribe pain medication to relieve any discomfort during this period.

Q. How long will the surgery take?
A. It depends on the type of surgery you are having. Total hip and knee replacements take approximately one hour. Minimally invasive and Rapid Recovery hip replacements also take about one hour. Arthroscopic surgery, Oxford knee replacement, Copeland Shoulder Resurfacing and fracture surgery all take different lengths of time. It is best to discuss this question with your doctor before your surgery to get the best time frame for your specific procedure.

Q. Is the surgery I'm having safe?
A. All surgeries come with a risk factor. These are invasive procedures that your doctor will thoroughly explain during your examination. If you have any questions about your surgery, please ask your doctor at this time. The Kennedy Center's success rate for total hip and knee replacements is over 95% at ten years. We have a national reputation for safety and quality care.
